Island states in the Caribbean, Pacific and beyond are facing challenges by climate change and high energy costs. They are therefore looking at alternative and sustainable energy sources to fuel demand at competitive costs for economic prosperity. For most of them their actual or ancient volcanic activity still provides ideal conditions for a geothermal energy utilization.
Thus, geothermal energy actually is an option for many of those island states. The IGC Islands Geothermal Conference is providing an opportunity to learn from the example of Terceira Island in the Azores and their implementation of a geothermal power project and provide a forum for discussions on opportunities and challenges to develop geothermal projects in an island context.
